Iris has been working as an attorney at law at La Gro since 2023 in the Intellectual Property & Technology team and is a member of the Healthcare & Life Sciences sector group. Iris specialises in patent law with a focus on the Pharma & Life Sciences practice. She has dealt with issues such as second medical indication patents, the concept of plausibility and issues relating to SPCs. She also advises on and handles disputes relating to regulatory issues such as data exclusivity, marketing authorisations, orphan drugs, and NAS. Furthermore, Iris also has experience in drafting and negotiating complex licence agreements. Iris has made an important contribution to the analysis of difficult issues in various large-scale patent proceedings. She has unrivalled knowledge of the case law of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) within the team. She was part of the team that assisted Spanish and Belgian clients in infringement proceedings concerning medical devices before the UPC Local Division Brussels.
Before joining La Gro, Iris worked as an in-house counsel at Radboudumc, where she specialised in legal issues related to paediatric clinical trials.
Outside her legal career, Iris has always been socially engaged. She has held various board positions and was an active member of the Advisory Board of Stichting Maashorst in Uitvoering. She has been involved in elderly care (Red Cross) and in helping refugees from Syria.
Iris is an enthusiastic, empathetic person who enjoys tackling difficult issues. Through her work and social involvement, she has learned to bring people with different interests and points of view together.
